Getting Our Japanese Fix at Seryna

Getting Our Japanese Fix at Seryna
Seryna at night

I would go straight to talking about the amazing steak they have but I figured you might be interested about the place first. *Apologizing now for the dark photos that would probably not do justice to the delectable food.

Seryna is one of the many Japanese restaurants found at Little Tokyo. You won’t miss it because it’s along Chino Roces, right across McDonald’s. The boyfriend has been raving about it since the day we met so I was excited to finally try it out.

I immediately knew the place was good upon entering because there were so many Japanese customers around. There was also a Japanese chef by the bar. The interior was very nicely done too. I was enamoured especially by the ceiling design.
Before eating, while I can still tuck in my guts for a photo

The menu was very extensive. You name it, they probably have it. I appreciated that although the dishes in the menu were written in Japanese, they have English descriptions (some restaurants at Little Tokyo don’t) so you know exactly what you’re ordering.
The menu was at least 6 pages long. (zomato.com has their complete current menu)

We had my staple Miso soup(Php60). It was just a tad bit salty for me but it’s alright. (Wasn't able to take a photo of it though but the presentation was pretty much the same as any other miso soup you've seen before)

fresh, not frozen... so pay double  :|

The Jo Salmon(Php480). We had this because the regular salmon sashimi was unavailable. This is twice as expensive as their regular salmon sashimi(Php240)because it was “fresh, not frozen”. Honestly, I didn’t notice much difference from regular salmon sashimi except that it was slightly softer in texture. The serving was very small too for.
The Spicy Hamachi Roll

The Spicy Hamachi Roll(Php240). Also called Spicy Yellowtail Roll. It was good. It wasn’t very spicy and you can really taste the sweet vinegar in the rice.
Ebi Tempura <3

The Ebi Tempura(Php420) looked small at first but that’s only because they don’t smother it with breading. You’re actually tasting and feeling the shrimp instead of just crumbs. I believe it's available in 3 and 5 piece orders.

                AH. AND FINALLY.THE SAIKORO STEAK(Php980).
oh dear..

If I were from Cooking Master Chef, I would describe this as “waves of melted steak crashing in my mouth, like a sea of cows bursting in to Gregorian songs!”

Seriously though, this steak is DA BOMB. I was initially disappointed by the small amount of cubes of steak I found on our sizzling plate.  When I tried it though, it literally melted in my mouth! Every bite was screaming “best steak ever”. I have yet to try legit Wagyu steak alone(which they also have), but I’ve no doubt this should come close to it.

all done!

OVERALL. I would definitely come back if only for the Saikoro steak. I have no doubt about the quality of food but the serving is quite small for someone like me who enjoys actually eating and not just tasting it. It’s quite pricey too. They offered us oyster for Php280 a piece.. A PIECE!

*update: Not even a week after, Jeff and I went back to Seryna just to eat the Saikoro again. This time we tried other dishes.
5-Kinds of Sashimi
Goten Mori(Php640). This time around, we got a variety of sashimi (Never ordering the over priced Jo Salmon ever again). They have 3-kind, 5-kind, 7-kind and 9-kind sashimi available. We got the 5-kind one which had five slices of tuna, 6 slices of squid and 3 slices each of yellow-tail, octopus and salmon(plus caviar). Everything was flavorful and meaty.

This Kani Mountain
Kani Salad(Php240). We ordered this one because we thought it would be a great "healthy" match for the meaty Saikoro. I really enjoyed this one. They did not skimp on the ingredients and the amount of dressing was enough to give flavor but not make it soggy.

I say the place is perfect for a nice, casual date or dining out with the family. The service was great too. Their waiters are very accommodating and are knowledgeable about the menu despite it being so extensive. TIP: They have special items that are seasonal so you if you want to try something different, you might want to ask the waiter about it first. Also, you better go early because the place does get full (for good reason). You can also make a reservation just to be sure that you get a seat.

NOTHING WRONG WITH WRONG RAMEN

      NOTHING WRONG WITH WRONG RAMEN

Just the name tickles your curiosity, doesn't it? Jeff and I checked this place out a few days ago to see exactly what was wrong with their ramen.
The first thing I noticed was how cramped the place looked like. The tables were awkwardly separated by these bars in between. Nevermind the place though. I was excited to see what was in the menu.
                The menu.
The choices are few but everything looks appetizing.

I was planning to order the “Fu” Ramen because I heard it was the wrongest among them all but The Tonkotsu Rich was calling out to me. I decided to try Fu at a different time.
The Tonkotsu(Php395) plus an order of Runny Egg(Php55)

We also had “The Communist” which was very similar to the Tonkotsu in ingredients except that it’s spicy and NOT milky.
The Communist(Php395) plus an order of Runny Egg(Php55)

Jeff and I also tried the Chasu Rice Roll with pork inside. I didn’t like the rice cover much because it was too hard for me but I liked how fresh it felt in my mouth.

There’s not many ramen restaurant that serves crispy pata. But this one has. AND IT WAS GOOD. We DEVOURED that meat, cut it up and relished in the crispiness of its skin and softness of its meat.  This Crispy Pata can also be eaten Ssam-style where the meat is wrapped in lettuce with other condiments. The lettuce made me feel less guilty of eating the OILY, FATTY, SINFUL, YUMMY Pata.
DAT LEG
LET ME CUT YOU UP
DAT SKIN O_O

OVERALL. I think the ramen was good although it is a little oilier than your usual ramenThe wrapped veggie a nice appetizer. It was like one of those veggie-rolls in Phohoa-slash-lumpia. The most memorable dish for me was definitely the Crispy Pata just because it was so crispy and soft and everything a cripsy pata should be like. I also liked the idea of wrapping it in lettuce to make it seem less sinful.
One of the things I can’t rave about Wrong Ramen is the size of the place. It was kind of small and cramped. I doubt the place can accommodate 80 people. It is a little pricey too (for me).
The couple that gets fat together, stays together <3

I enjoyed our date at Wrong Ramen. I would definitely go back to try the Fu ramen because even my brother MG was raving about it. It might take a while before I eat anything pork again after that pata.
Wrong Ramen is located right across Robinson’s Selections at Burgos Circle, Bonifacio Global City.

6 Beauty No-Nos I’m Guilty Of

6 Beauty No-Nos I’m Guilty Of

photo from queens8.blogspot.com

1.       Tugging on the Skin Around My Eyes
I think anyone who has ever put on eyeliner has done this. It just makes lining your eyes THAT much easier. However, the skin around our eyes is a lot thinner and more delicate than the rest of our face. Tugging and pulling on this area will only cause it to age and wrinkle faster. If you’re still doing this, STOP. Give extra care for your eyes and it will reward you in the long run.

2.       Using A Concealer Too Light For My Dark Under Eye Circles
When I was younger, I’ve always been told to use very light concealer for my eye bags. Me, the make up noob that I was, did it all the time and never questioned this technique.  This is actually okay if you want to highlight that part of your face. Just make sure you apply properly. Putting it in a curved line below your eyes will make you look even more tired and highlight your eye luggage. Instead, apply your concealer in an inverted triangle shape from below your eyes so that it blends better with the rest of your face.

If you’re not looking to highlight and actually just want to conceal, use a concealer in the same shade as your foundation or skin. For red and dark spots, you can use correctors first to cancel the color out before applying your concealer for an even coverage.

3.       Powdering My Face When I Feel Oily
If I feel like I’m becoming as shiny as a discoball, I immediately reach for my powder and dab it all over my face with my sponge. If you do this too, then congratulations! You’re not only wasting your powder but you’re also breeding bacteria on your sponge. When you dab your sponge on your sweaty/oily face, the sponge is actually absorbing it and then YOU DAB IT AGAIN on your powder and put it AGAIN on your face. Not only is it unhygienic, it can also cause you to break out. Next time you feel like a ray of sunshine, use blotting sheets first then you can powder up.

4.       Exfoliating My Face All The Time
Nothing makes my face squeaky clean then exfoliation. There was a time when I used my Celeteque Exfoliating wash every day. How wrong I was. Exfoliation is done to remove dead skin cells and take out dirt that has clogged our pores. Regular exfoliation is important but should not be done every day. Over exfoliation can damage your skin and may cause irritation, redness and sensitivity. (I personally exfoliate twice a week only)

5.       Furrowing My Eyebrows/Forehead Constantly
I wish I knew this sooner. Our eyebrows are vital in expressing how we feel. Imagine an actor having to act without his eyebrows. This applies not only to our foreheads but to the rest of our face as well. Constantly straining our facial skin and muscles causes wrinkles to form faster. I know its hard to keep a relaxed expressionless face. Sooooo.. I don't really know how to let go of this one...

I WOKE UP LIKE THIS

6.       Sleeping With Make Up On
We’ve all done this at least one. After a tiring day at work or a long night partying, it’s quite tempting to just go to bed and forget you have tons of paint on your face. I did it before and I hope I never do it again. It feels so icky to wake up with an oily face full of make-up and smeared lipstick all over your face (not to mention your pillow).

If the icky feeling does not turn you off, know also that the skin rejuvenates itself when we sleep. Having make up on prevents itself from doing so. Prolonged wearing of make-up can cause breakouts and irritation on the skin because of the bacteria and oil build up throughout the day. So the next time you feel tempted to hit the sack with your make up again, just remember, BACTERIA.

These are just some of the beauty no-nos I'm guilty of. I'm sure you guys have done these at least once in your life.
