Getting Our Japanese Fix at Seryna

Getting Our Japanese Fix at Seryna
Seryna at night

I would go straight to talking about the amazing steak they have but I figured you might be interested about the place first. *Apologizing now for the dark photos that would probably not do justice to the delectable food.

Seryna is one of the many Japanese restaurants found at Little Tokyo. You won’t miss it because it’s along Chino Roces, right across McDonald’s. The boyfriend has been raving about it since the day we met so I was excited to finally try it out.

I immediately knew the place was good upon entering because there were so many Japanese customers around. There was also a Japanese chef by the bar. The interior was very nicely done too. I was enamoured especially by the ceiling design.
Before eating, while I can still tuck in my guts for a photo

The menu was very extensive. You name it, they probably have it. I appreciated that although the dishes in the menu were written in Japanese, they have English descriptions (some restaurants at Little Tokyo don’t) so you know exactly what you’re ordering.
The menu was at least 6 pages long. (zomato.com has their complete current menu)

We had my staple Miso soup(Php60). It was just a tad bit salty for me but it’s alright. (Wasn't able to take a photo of it though but the presentation was pretty much the same as any other miso soup you've seen before)

fresh, not frozen... so pay double  :|

The Jo Salmon(Php480). We had this because the regular salmon sashimi was unavailable. This is twice as expensive as their regular salmon sashimi(Php240)because it was “fresh, not frozen”. Honestly, I didn’t notice much difference from regular salmon sashimi except that it was slightly softer in texture. The serving was very small too for.
The Spicy Hamachi Roll

The Spicy Hamachi Roll(Php240). Also called Spicy Yellowtail Roll. It was good. It wasn’t very spicy and you can really taste the sweet vinegar in the rice.
Ebi Tempura <3

The Ebi Tempura(Php420) looked small at first but that’s only because they don’t smother it with breading. You’re actually tasting and feeling the shrimp instead of just crumbs. I believe it's available in 3 and 5 piece orders.

                AH. AND FINALLY.THE SAIKORO STEAK(Php980).
oh dear..

If I were from Cooking Master Chef, I would describe this as “waves of melted steak crashing in my mouth, like a sea of cows bursting in to Gregorian songs!”

Seriously though, this steak is DA BOMB. I was initially disappointed by the small amount of cubes of steak I found on our sizzling plate.  When I tried it though, it literally melted in my mouth! Every bite was screaming “best steak ever”. I have yet to try legit Wagyu steak alone(which they also have), but I’ve no doubt this should come close to it.

all done!

OVERALL. I would definitely come back if only for the Saikoro steak. I have no doubt about the quality of food but the serving is quite small for someone like me who enjoys actually eating and not just tasting it. It’s quite pricey too. They offered us oyster for Php280 a piece.. A PIECE!

*update: Not even a week after, Jeff and I went back to Seryna just to eat the Saikoro again. This time we tried other dishes.
5-Kinds of Sashimi
Goten Mori(Php640). This time around, we got a variety of sashimi (Never ordering the over priced Jo Salmon ever again). They have 3-kind, 5-kind, 7-kind and 9-kind sashimi available. We got the 5-kind one which had five slices of tuna, 6 slices of squid and 3 slices each of yellow-tail, octopus and salmon(plus caviar). Everything was flavorful and meaty.

This Kani Mountain
Kani Salad(Php240). We ordered this one because we thought it would be a great "healthy" match for the meaty Saikoro. I really enjoyed this one. They did not skimp on the ingredients and the amount of dressing was enough to give flavor but not make it soggy.

I say the place is perfect for a nice, casual date or dining out with the family. The service was great too. Their waiters are very accommodating and are knowledgeable about the menu despite it being so extensive. TIP: They have special items that are seasonal so you if you want to try something different, you might want to ask the waiter about it first. Also, you better go early because the place does get full (for good reason). You can also make a reservation just to be sure that you get a seat.
